STALEMATE: CRISTOPH BüCHEL & MASS MOCA

By BIG RED NEWS EDITOR

While reported elsewhere, many of you may have not read about the ongoing debacle between Swiss artist Christoph Büchel and the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art in North Adams, MA.

Büchel, who was comissioned by Mass MoCA to produce an installation project for Building 5 (one of the many warehouse size galleries on the North Adams campus), had last December abandoned the over-budget project, Training Ground for Democracy, after project and budget disagreements. Büchel has not yet returned to the project and the status of the exhibition is as of now undeterminded.

Rather than repeat what has been better stated elsewhere, below is a listing of news, blogs, and links for readers to orient themselves not only with the story, but Büchel and his work:

Boston Globe - "Behind Closed Doors: A World Unseen" by Geoff Edgers
Zeke's Gallery - "Christoph Büchel should learn from Jana Sterbak"
Grammarpolice - "The Big Dig"

"Training Ground for Democracy" is currently not open for viewing. It is located in Building 5 at Mass MoCA at 87 Marshall Street in North Adams, MA.

Thanks to Geoff Edgers for the head start in compiling links.
