Welcome to Studio Sessions with our latest guest, Letha Wilson. Letha earned her BFA in Painting from Syracuse University in 1998, and her MFA in combined media from Hunter College in New York in 2003. In other instances she creates full sculptures out of drywall reclaimed from scrapped gallery walls. Listen as Letha describes what drives her to…

We hope that the series will champion some of the exemplary work being done, shed light on neglected issues facing our arts scene and community, build connections among individuals and organizations, and…

A friend pointed out that a career takes a lifetime to take its unique shape, which is longer than I can conceive of. It’s defined he said not by who is tipping their hat to you at any given time, but the quality of the time you spend alone, caring for and nurturing what you yourself love the most about what you do. (1. PATIENCE). Agnes Martin is one of my heroes. She stopped making art for seven years right in the middle of her career, moving from the thick of things…

By John Pyper December 31, 2013 To ask an editor to go back through the blur that was the last year? To ask them to renavigate the rough seas of putting together this labor of love? It’s immoral. How does one separate the writing, the show, and the experiences we had as editors with the writers? It’s impossibly subjective, but it was also much easier than I thought it would be to do. I’ve tried to keep as objective as possible, selecting a few well written pieces that considered some of this…

I tend to generate stacks of things – papers, books, wooden blocks, foam bits. I like to keep moving, otherwise I can get stuck. Generating a critical mass of something keeps me from making any one thing too important. Developing such a series allows me to focus on what I’m doing rather than what ‘thing’ I’m making. So the ‘thing’ is secondary to the activity and my attentiveness to that activity. ‘Draw Through It’ is an ongoing, lifelong project, begun in about 1998. It’s a growing sculptural piece of bundled drawings. They…
