By BIG RED Print this article With so many young artists in Boston, and with so much energy in the scene, it can often be hard to keep track of good work, or to know which artists may be worth your time, attention and support. To this end, Big RED & Shiny took a poll of our writers, to find out who they think are the stars on the rise. This is by no means a comprehensive listing, but a quick look at a few people our writers find exciting, and hope…

By BIG RED NEWS EDITOR Print this article Chicago is the windy city, full of mid-western angst and fresh-faced art students wandering out of The School of the Art Institute, looking for their place in the world. There is a lot of energy among these young artists, and a thriving yet disconnnected scene, looking for a voice on the wind to connect all the loose ends. Sound familiar? Replace ‘mid-western’ with ‘east coast’ and ‘SAIC’ with ‘SMFA and MassArt’ and Chicago looks a lot like Boston. Bad At Sports is a great…

By RACHEL GEPNER It would be hard to have missed the recent proliferation of digital photography. It’s even at WalMart. Inevitably there has been an equally large upsurge in the number of crappy digital photographs, but there are also a significant number of artists who are turning away from traditional 35mm or even large format photography to work with a digital camera, computer, and inkjet printer. Part of the allure of photography has always been the darkroom, and now that’s being passed over in favor of a well-lit, toxic chemical-free home office…
