By MATTHEW GAMBER Print this article At last, number 56. The issues usually speak for themselves, and this writing is just a snippet among all the other writings: Reviews from shows in academia, a column from the Anonymous Art Dealer, the next installment of the White Cube, snaps from various openings throughout the area, and a encore report from Miami to warm things up. Also, we have a very helpful new feature in the left menu coulmn. When you click on a catagory, it will drop down and list the individual pieces,…
By ANONYMOUS ART DEALER Print this article I have received a lot of questions by the readers of Big RED & Shiny and have really enjoyed addressing them in this column. As a person that is now giving advice to artists, besides those that I have represented, I have been hyper-sensitive and observant of other artist advice columns. Thomas Marquet is a cartoonist, sculptor, and critic, based in Brooklyn, New York, which is an admittedly unoriginal place to be pursuing any of these things.
By JOHN RUGGIERI Print this article I’d been to South Beach only once before for a brief winter respite in the early 90s, when the main strip, Ocean Drive, was awash in models and open-air cafes. The Art Deco architecture and wide beach were impressive, but I stayed mainly in SoBe. I had little sense of the art and culture but for some very colorful but not overly interesting work in galleries outside of Miami. Then the pedestrian mall, Lincoln Road, was only dotted with people and a few small, impressive galleries;…
