Somerville-based arts journal and National Magazine Award winner DoubleTake has ceased publication after failing to support itself for several years. Fundraisers, that included a performance by Bruce Springsteen and a celebrity auction in early 2004, were set to help relaunch the project this fall. However, those fundraisers were not sufficient to handle the growing amount of debt the magazine faced.
The presigeous publication devoted to the narratives of the "everyday person" was founded by Harvard University professor and Pulizer Prize winner Dr. Robert Coles. The publication featured understated documentary photography and humanist essays. However, unlike other picture-story publications like LIFE, the editors sought to highlight the artistry and individual voice of each contributor.
