BIG RED ON-THE-TOWN: PLATFORM2: WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE?
Friday, February 27th, 2009 Candid snaps from a Big RED night on-the-town at the studio of Jane Marsching for Platform2's "Who Do You Think You Are?" This event was a discussion about how artists in interdisciplinary and experimental media identify themselves, and is part of a larger dialog around arts funding.
The impetus for this event was a meeting at the Massachusetts Cultural Council to discuss the possibility of a new funding category for experimental media. The MCC was supportive of the idea, and asked the artists to help define the boundaries of the category and how they could best collect and jury non-traditional artwork. Platform2 created "Who Do You Think You Are?" as a forum for discussing this idea and coming up with new definitions for artistic practice. The diagram on the wall began with the MCC's current categories, and grew as those in the room began defining themselves.
The moderators for this event were Jane D. Marsching and Andi Sutton of Platform2, and Matthew Nash of Big RED & Shiny.
Artist Philippe Lejeune documented the whole night on video, and if you are interested in hearing the conversation you can watch his view of the night at these links:
