Stitched into Memory

July 26 @ 7:00 am - September 9 @ 10:00 pm

Free

STITCHED INTO MEMORY is a free public art exhibition celebrating the contemporary African Diaspora communities of Boston that features traditional West African textiles designed and created by Boston artist/educator, Stephen Hamilton, in collaboration with nine Boston teenagers.

To create STITCHED INTO MEMORY, Hamilton spent four months teaching Boston youth traditional West African textile dying, weaving and embellishing processes that he learned while visiting Nigeria to study art and culture. The finished product is a 30' by 9' textile mural that aims to  celebrate the contemporary African Diaspora communities of Boston by featuring textiles created in West African traditions.
