Harsh is Truth
November 16 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pmO
The National Parks of Boston Art on the Trails to Freedom series continues on Thursday, November 16, 2017 with Harsh is Truth, a multi-media performance by Boston- based collective Masary Studios that will fuse live, original music with projected visuals at Old South Meeting House on Boston’s Freedom Trail.
The performance will highlight Old South Meeting House’s unique history as a place to resist and share one’s personal truth, and will look at the role meeting places have played in our revolutionary history-- from sharing information to disputing ideas, and from debating policy change to planning rebellions--by posing the questions: How is truth defined, and How do different perceptions of truth converge in public spaces?
Responses to questions about truth, action, and change along with stories, poems, and phrases sourced from recent visitors on Boston’s Freedom Trail and Black Heritage Trail will be featured in the performance.
Visitors can explore the transformed space at 6:30 pm, with the performance from 7:00-7:45 pm. After the performance, visitors can talk with Masary Studios artists, National Park Service representatives, museum staff, and other audience members on the competing truths that have built our nation and will shape our future.
Art on the Trails to Freedom, a collaborative project between New England Foundation for the Arts and the National Park Service, invites artists from New England to create public works of art that explore Boston’s historical themes and activate select locations on Boston’s Freedom Trail and Black Heritage Trail with new theme-based public programming and temporary public art installations.
