Big Red and Shiny is a Boston-based art magazine dedicated to publishing and promoting criticism, research, and perspectives on contemporary art in Boston. BR&S accepts concise, thoughtful pitches from contributors from Boston, New England and beyond. For 2017, our editorial themes are “regionality,” “ageism/ableism,” “live/work,” and “protest.” Though we will be especially receptive to pitches that consider these themes, we welcome perspectives all kinds.
Please review our previous posts to familiarize with our editorial style, and limit your pitch to 150 words. If you have not previously published with us, please include two writing samples of no more than 1,000 words each. Also, please remember that our editorial staff is small and all-volunteer, so therefore will respond to your pitch as soon as possible.
BR&S publishes the following:
Reviews (typically 600 to 1000 words)
Features (in the form of profiles, art historical studies, multi-media pieces, typically 1500-2000 words)
Essays (in the form of op-eds & think pieces, typically 1000-1500 words)
