Summer is a time for escaping. We escape on vacation or to the beach, we escape into books, we escape to the movie theatre. Issue number sixty-seven of Big RED & Shiny is devoted to escaping.

First, you have probably already noticed that this is our Fourth Annual Summer Movie Extravaganza, with reviews of movies that kept us out of the heat this summer. As always, we have done our best to bring the Big RED perspective to these Hollywood offerings, and hope that you enjoy our thoughts.

Secondly, you will notice that there is no "Out-Of-Town" section for this issue. Many of our regular writers have been traveling and seeing the world, and our reviews reflect that. Of course, if any of our readers came TO New England for their escape and want to share their thoughts on what they saw, send them along!

Third, Jennifer Schmidt spent a week Elsewhere and offers a glimpse of this strange and wonderful artist collective in North Carolina, along with audio recordings, experiential sound clips, and an extended interview.

Fourth, eighteen Boston artists escaped reality and became superheroes for a day as part of a project by Brian Burkhardt and Tanit Sakakini. In our "On-The-Town" section you can see images from this hysterical and amazing event, and giggle at some of your favorite artists in spandex. Plus, look for more information on the superhero project in our next issue.

And last, but certainly not least, we are pleased to announce that The Big RED & Shiny 2007 Annual is now available for pre-order! This collection of previously unpublished essays highlights some of the best Big RED has to offer. (Click here to pre-order your copy for $12 USD)
