A CONVERSATION WITH EVAN GARZA

By Christian Holland

September 18, 2008 - I talked with Evan Garza at the opening for "Hecho a Mano: New Visions of Latin Contemporary Art" at the Center for Latino Art. Garza moved to Boston and became the curator for the Center in May and "Hecho a Mano" is his first show for the gallery. We talked about people's perceptions of Latin art in Boston and his plans for the gallery and the city.

From the interview:

"One of the things that I really wanted to do was to break from that stereotype, to break from that expectation, to include video and new media and other types of technologically advanced - so to speak - mediums; bring those into the gallery, so that people can really think about Latino art as being something different than what they thought previously."
