Inside Out: Siobhan Landry

Our Daily Red is pleased to continue our artist-in-residence series titled Inside Out. Every month, a new guest artist will have access to the platform to publish images and jot down thoughts about inspiration, obsession, creative failures and insights. Unlike an 'Open Studio' format which is predicated on potential sales, BR&S wants to provide the artist-in-residence with an outlet to place their practice in a more public realm, offering an expanded look at the creative process and placing emphasis on the time ideas and works take to mature. It is not expected that the artist produce anything finished or specific to BR&S in this time, only that they candidly share their explorations. Each artist will then invite an artist to follow them. The rules of the game specify that the guest must 1. work in a different medium, 2. live elsewhere, 3. write often and not think too much about what they post, 4. be someone whose inside the host artist is curious to see out.

Introducing: SIOBHAN LANDRY

For my last post I wanted to highlight one of my favorite emerging artists and give her the opportunity to be the BR&S artist-in-residence for January 2013!

Siobhan Landry is a New York-based video artist originally from Massachusetts. Trained as a photographer with an interest in documentary and horror films, Landry incorporates uncanny observations of the domestic, doppelganger Golden Retrievers, and a twisted handling of nature and family to uniquely archive the American psyche. My favorite aspect of Siobhan’s work is how she responds to real places (as in her video titled This House is Just Like Your House) and objects (After We Agreed that it was Beautiful) by making use of a carefully pieced-together fiction constructed from personal accounts. Her frequent use of her parents and/or her own body in the work creates an experience that is a heavy, yet humorous reminder of human fragility.

Siobhan Landry is a nationally exhibiting artist, a devout practitioner, dog enthusiast, and a pretty good friend. I can’t wait to see what she has to share with BR&S this January!
